The Preceptor Challenge Now Available Through NetLearning

Developed by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, this comprehensive course is now accessible via the convenient, user-friendly NetLearning Learning Management System

Clifton Park, NY, July 25, 2011 – NetLearning, a leading provider of online courses and e-learning software for healthcare workers and hospital administrators, today announced the availability of The Preceptor Challenge, from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) via NetLearning’saward-winning learning management system (LMS).

A preceptor, or teacher, plays a vital role in the education and socialization of nursing students. Precepting helps to promote competence, familiarity, confidence and security with new nurses in an unfamiliar environment. Although this is an important piece of nursing education, there are very few standardized or universally accepted guidelines for a preceptorship curriculum. This unique course from AACN addresses the specific concerns that preceptors encounter in the field due to their dual role as both mentor and skills evaluator. The Preceptor Challenge uses virtual characters in accurate, realistic, hospital-based scenarios so that learners have the opportunity to experience what a successful interaction with a preceptee would entail. The course provides inexperienced and seasoned preceptor nurses with the information, practice and resources necessary to prepare them for the unique challenges they will face in their day-to-day work.

“The role of preceptor weighs heavily on many nurses, especially when they don’t feel that they are adequately prepared for the task,” said Will Passano, vice president, NetLearning. “We are excited to have the opportunity to offer AACN’s The Preceptor Challenge, as NetLearning customers will now be able to access this groundbreaking course that will prepare them for the responsibilities that accompany their preceptor respsonsibilities. Through the convenience and reliability of NetLearning’s LMS, nurses can access the course anytime, anywhere, with the convenience of self-paced individual study.”

Available to institutions and individuals through NetLearning’s LMS, The Preceptor Challenge is relevant to nurses in all patient care areas. It was designed by AACN to provide opportunities for nurses to apply theory-based practices in virtual, interactive scenarios. Upon successful completion, the course provides 3.5 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credit hours and students will have knowledge of the following course objectives:

·         Describe the roles and responsibilities of a preceptor.

·         Demonstrate best practices in communication skills with a preceptee, staff and patients.

·         Develop and implement a learning plan with a preceptee based on his or her needs and goals.

·         Demonstrate understanding of critical thinking skills as supported by current protocols, evidence-based research and best practices.

·         Provide constructive feedback and evaluation to the preceptee.

With the addition of ThePreceptor Challenge to NetLearning’s suite of courseware, the company now offers its customers access to four courses developed by AACN through NetLearning’s LMS.
