New Certifications to be Added to the Testing and Education Reference Center

Gale, part of Cengage Learning, and Peterson's, a Nelnet company, today announced that Cengage Learning's proprietary Delmar career certifications will be added for the first time to the Testing & Education Reference Center (TERC), which Gale distributes to libraries on behalf of Peterson's. TERC is a resource for public, academic and K-12 library users providing in-depth information on colleges and universities, graduate and professional programs, distance learning, corporate training, available scholarships and awards, preparatory entrance tests and online practice tests. The Delmar certifications being added cover a variety of fields, such as medical assisting, cosmetology, information technology, auto and medium/heavy duty truck repair and collision repair.

"Cengage Learning has served the educational and library markets for more than half a century, and these enhancements to TERC are an excellent example of how our unique position in both markets combines to better serve our customers," said Gerald Sawchuk, publisher, public library solutions, Gale. "By leveraging the combined resources of Gale and Delmar, we are able to provide the library community with authoritative content and leading technology."

The technical implementation to incorporate this new content is underway, and the new certifications are scheduled to be released in April 2011. More than 100 additional certifications—a mix of initial certifications and continuing education credits, including some content in both English and Spanish—will follow in future product updates. All current TERC subscribers will receive access to these added certifications at no additional cost.

"Delmar's career certification solutions represent an excellent addition to TERC at a time when significant numbers of adults are making career transitions," said Frank Costanzo, managing director, Perterson's. "This initial selection of career certifications targets some of the most rapidly expanding careers and will be followed by additional career categories this summer."
